(7 May 2019) JERED LETO HEADS TO THE MET GALA, WITH HIS OWN HEAD IN HAND
STORYLINE:
Miley Cyrus, Lucy Boynton, Demi Moore, Shawn Mendes, Lewis Hamilton, Lili Reinhart, Michael B Jordan, more arrive at Met Gala
The theme of the night was camp, and most in the annual A-list fashion parade more than lived up to the dress code.
For the men, Jared Leto was way ahead of the pack. The Oscar winner was accompanied by his own (fake) head, holding it like a purse or a clutch.
This year’s gala theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” was inspired by a seminal 1964 essay by Susan Sontag in which she describes the phenomenon as something that shan’t be talked about: “To talk about Camp is therefore to betray it.”
The theme is chosen for the The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s spring exhibition.
Newlyweds Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth made their Met Gala debut as a couple in matching looks. The singer shined in a Yves Saint Laurent sequin striped dress and sheer black leggings. Hemsworth was in all black.
Singer Shawn Mendes had matching gold streaks in his hair, coordinating with his black-studded suit.
Supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley went for a more elegant chic look, with slicked-back hair, a slinky white gown encrusted with shiny pearls and a dramatic feathered cape.
Lovebirds Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart also sported matching looks, looking more like animated characters than their “Archie”-comic inspired sweethearts on TV’s “Riverdale.”
Reinhart wore a blue, off-the-shoulder romper with giant sleeves and a long train. Sprouse complemented her in his own 1920s ringmaster red vest, pants and nude top.
