The Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild (IATSE Local 706) is the official labor union for make-up artists and hair stylists in film, television, stage and digital media. These artistic professionals have created the iconic looks for Hollywood’s most memorable characters and stars, and have in turn influenced many major trends in the consumer industry. The wide-ranging domains of these artists include feature films and television, commercials; live network television, all types of theatrical productions and even Disneyland theme parks.
The Guild will honor work of make-up artists and hair stylists at this prestigious black tie event, which will be attended by Guild members, celebrity talent, filmmakers, producers and other makeup and hair industry personnel. “The Artisan” award will be given in over fifteen different categories, along with one Lifetime Achievement award in each discipline, and one special award for an actor or actress that has distinguished themselves as creative partners in the process.
Johnny Depp will receive the first ever Distinguished Artisan Award from the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild, Local 706, at their awards ceremony, as announced today by guild President Susan Cabral-Ebert. The awards ceremony, returning after a hiatus of 10 years, was held on February 15, 2014, at Paramount Studios. Joel Harlow, Depp’s make-up artist, presented the award. M.A.C. Cosmetics is the Diamond Level Sponsor and the Official Cocktail Reception Sponsor. For a full list of 2014 nominees, visit: www.local706.org
“Make-up and hair artisans agree that Johnny Depp is a wonderful selection to receive our first Distinguished Artisan Award. He, probably more than any other actor working today, uses the skills of our members to delineate his characters. Depp has constantly been an outstanding supporter of our crafts, ultimately respectful and appreciative of our members’ abilities and generous with his creative collaboration. A great artist himself, he allows others to shine,” said Cabral-Ebert.
Johnny Depp is one of the most prominent and talented actors working today. The award-winning characters he consistently brings to life through film are uniquely enhanced with make-up and hair stylist artistry. Beginning with Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands in 1990, Depp repeatedly creates indelible characterizations, making it hard to imagine any other actor in these roles. His iconic performances in Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland; and of course the continuing Pirates of the Caribbean series, are among the 50 plus roles he has played, which have been brought to life in partnership with his gifted make-up artists and hair stylists.
