Brad Pitt is an American actor and film producer known for his versatility and sex appeal. He was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma he enrolled in the University of Missouri in 1982 with a major in journalism. However, after realising his love for film, two weeks before earning his degree, Pitt left the university and moved to Los Angeles.
After years of supporting roles in movies and frequent television guest appearances, his claim to fame came from his supporting role in the 1991 road film Thelma & Louise, where he played small-time criminal J. D. alongside Geena Davis. His love scene with Davis has been cited as the moment that defined Pitt as a sex symbol. The following year, Pitt took the role of Paul Maclean in Robert Redford’s 1992 A River Runs Through It. It was a career-making performance that proved he could be more than a “cowboy-hatted hunk.”
1994 was a significant turning point in Pitt’s career as he received his first Golden Globe Award nomination in the Best Actor category for his portrayal of Tristan Ludlow in Legends of the Fall.
His career only continued to expand as he starred alongside Morgan Freeman and Gwyneth Paltrow in the academy award winning crime-thriller Seven in 1995. The same year saw Pitt in the supporting role as Jeffrey Goines in Terry Gilliam’s science fiction film 12 Monkeys, where he won his first Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor and received his first Academy Award nomination in the same category.
His next hit came from his portrayal of Tyler Durden in David Fincher’s 1999 Fight Club, which is arguably his most recognised role.
In 2001, Pitt took the role of Rusty Ryan in the heist film Ocean’s Eleven. The role helped establish his appeal as an action star. It lead to roles such as Achilles in Troy and the 2005 Doug Liman–directed action comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith, where he met his now wife, Anjelina Jolie. The feature was lauded for the chemistry between Jolie and Pitt, who was at the time, married to Jennifer Anniston. However, after a 7 year relationship the pair announced their divorce. Jolie announced in January 2006 that she was pregnant with Pitt’s first child, publicly confirming the pairs relationship. The couple, who were married in 2014, now have 6 children, including 2 adopted sons and a daughter.
Pitt has since starred in a number of blockbusters, including David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, a role which earned him his first Screen Actors Guild Award nomination, as well as a fourth Golden Globe and second Academy Award nomination, all in the category for Best Actor. He took the lead role in World War Z, his most commercially successful film to date.
Pitt continues to feature in a widely diverse range of roles from his portrayal in Moneyball and the adventurous Inglorious Bastards, Tree of Life, and most recently David Ayer’s Fury.
His talents don’t stop there. Pitt’s sex appeal has been widely recognised, yielding him numerous awards, including People’s Sexiest Man Alive in both 1995 and 2000. He also remains one of the few Hollywood stars that hasn’t been ruined by the wealth and fame as he continues to show an interest in worldwide efforts towards environmental sustainability and continues, alongside his wife, to contribute generously to international charities.
The 52 year old still rocks his flawless complexion and famously chiselled jaw, as he remains a sex symbol for females everywhere.
