CRISTIANO RONALDO Q&A
Q. Tell us why you decided to develop your fashion line to include smart footwear?
A. I really enjoyed launching my CR7 Underwear and Shirts ranges, and we’ve had a really great response, so for me extending the brand into formal footwear was very natural. I spend a lot of time in football boots for work and having great footwear is very important to me, both on and off the pitch, so I wanted to create something that is smart, is amazing quality, that looks good and that other people can share.
Q. Tell us about the brand
A. It is a collection of smart shoes which are made from premium quality materials that have a great fit and a stylish look. I really love great quality shoes and the opportunity to create my own high end collection was really exciting to me.
Q. What made you partner with Portugal Footwear?
A. Portugal Footwear’s reputation for quality craftsmanship and the fact that they only use the best Portuguese materials was very important to me. We share the same belief that quality is key and I really respect their commitment and dedication to producing the best and most sophisticated products.
Q. What is the similarity between CR7 Footwear and your Underwear and Shirts collections?
A. All of my CR7 ranges are based on the same principle – classic, timeless styles that have an understated yet premium look. My CR7 Footwear range includes a variety of really wearable smart styles. I believe that footwear can completely change an outfit and gives the finishing touch to a look so I’ve made sure the collection includes different options for different occasions, but all very refined.
Q. How involved were you in the design process?
A. Very involved, I wanted to make sure every shoe was something that I loved and would be proud to wear. I worked really hard on this collection to make sure that the range is both stylish and versatile. We’ve used some of my favourite colours and have paid a lot of attention to small detail in the shoes. I really like the process and it’s been great working together with the team.
Q. Did you collaborate with people to create the collection?
A. Of course, the team at Portugal Footwear, many friends, designers and people in the industry have given me advice and worked with me on my projects. This is my third fashion venture so I feel like my knowledge is growing but of course I am always I’m still learning.
Q. What materials are the shoes created with and why?
A. We only used the best fabrics and materials as we wanted the shoes to be durable as well as stylish. We wanted them to have comfort, quality and a great look and really to be the best. The craftsmanship in these shoes is so important, we only work with the best and most experienced artisans- real experts in shoe making- so that we are making something that is easy to wear and also a great investment.
Q. Is there anything that you learnt about the footwear making process that particularly interested you?
A. Many things. For example, it takes over 20 different materials to make each pair of shoes- the process is far more detailed that I imagined. We only use leather for our shoes and they are painted by hand, so it is impossible to find two pairs that are the same, making them truly exclusive. Our docksiders and driving shoes are handsewn too- we make sure that the crafting process on all of our pieces is truly bespoke with amazing attention to detail and it was so interesting to be a part of creating something truly special.
