Just when people were praising Billie Eilish for her strong stance on body shaming, here come trolls crawling out of the woodwork to put her down.
Billie recently posted a series of photos and videos from her vacation in Hawaii and people on social media were quick to call her a hypocrite for wearing a bikini top. Because everyone knows you’re supposed to go swimming on a tropical vacation fully dressed!
In response to body-shamers, Billie told Dazed magazine “There were comments like, ‘I don’t like her anymore because as soon as she turns 18 she’s a w***e. I can’t win. I cannot win.”
It seem like Billie is damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t!
This isn’t even the first time the singer has received criticism for wearing what some fans thought was a revealing outfit.
In June 2019, Billie was photographed wearing a tank top and Twitter trolls wasted no time posting disgusting comments about the singer who was – let’s not forget – a minor at the time:
Billie was understandably upset about the comments and gave an emotional interview for a Spanish television expressing her frustration with the way female artists are made to feel bad about themselves – no matter what they choose to wear:
Bille’s unique choice of wardrobe has made her one of the most recognizable stars in the world of fashion.
But the 18-year old singer’s signature style is deeper than fashion. Baggy pants, oversized tees, and chunky shoes are Billie’s way of sending a message about body positivity to her young fan base.
In 2019, she even stared in Calvin Klein’s viral “I speak my truth” campaign and talked about the media’s toxic obsession with women’s bodies:
