In the campaign, she got real about her personal style choices.
Billie wears baggy clothes to avoid being judged by other people.
Billie Eilish isn’t your average pop star. Her style, full of baggy clothes and track suits, embraces the weird and people love it. But she’s not just doing it to look cool. There’s a reason why Billie dresses the way she does and she just opened up about it. Along with other rising super stars like Shawn Mendes and Noah Centineo, Billie was recently tapped to star in Calvin Klein’s newest campaign. For the campaign titled, “I Speak The Truth In #MyCalvins,” the stars got deep about how their personal experiences have shaped who they are. For Billie’s ad, she decided to get real about her style choices.
Billie revealed that the reason she wears baggy clothes is so that people won’t be able to judge or sexualize her.” That’s why I wear baggy clothes,” she said “Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath. Nobody can be like, ‘she’s slim-thick,’ ‘she’s not slim-thick,’ ‘she’s got a flat ass,’ ‘she’s got a fat ass.’ No one can say any of that because they don’t know.”
People on Twitter commented praising Billie’s honesty, but also shamed society for making her feel that way.
Billie’s talked about her style before. When asked if she felt that people think they have a right to comment on her because she’s a young woman by NME, Billie said that she does think people judge her differently because she’s a female artist. “I’ve spoken a lot to female artists about this, because if you’re not a female artist you probably don’t think about this. If I was a guy and I was wearing these baggy clothes, nobody would bat an eye. There’s people out there saying, ‘Dress like a girl for once! Wear tight clothes you’d be much prettier and your career would be so much better!’ No it wouldn’t. It literally would not.”’
In 2017, Billie also spoke about her look to Harper’s Bazaar saying she describes her personal style as “pretty weird.”
“I just like dressing out of my comfort zone. I want to dress in a way that if I was in a room full of people wearing regular clothes, I would be like, ‘Oh, I bet everyone’s looking at me.’ I want to feel that way. That’s my casual,” she said.
